Straight answers before you buy

What drives the price of a custom live-edge table?

Species first. Walnut costs more than oak or maple. Then slab size, thickness, and whether the piece needs flattening or crack repair. Epoxy adds material and cure time. Base style, wood or metal, changes the number too. We look at the actual slab with you and quote from the work the piece needs, not a flat rate.

How is an estimate put together?

Every quote starts with the wood. We walk the racks with you, talk through the species and cut, and measure the space the piece will live in. From there the estimate covers the slab, flattening, finishing, and the base or hardware. No dollar figure gets thrown out before the actual slab is in front of you.

Do you deliver to Mason, West Chester, and the surrounding suburbs?

Yes. We serve Cincinnati and the nearby suburbs, including Rossmoyne, Blue Ash, Montgomery, Sharonville, Madeira, Mason, West Chester, Indian Hill, Kenwood, Loveland, and Milford. Most customers pick their slab at the shop on Emerald Ave, then we arrange delivery of the finished piece to their home.

How soon can I book a visit to pick out a slab?

The shop is open Tuesday through Thursday from 12:30 to 5:30 PM and Saturday mornings from 9 to 1. Walk-ins work for browsing slabs. For design help or a custom build, call ahead so someone can sit down with you. Saturdays fill up, so an early call helps.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Measurements of the space. Length, width, and ceiling height if it is a mantel or countertop. A photo of the room on your phone helps more than anything else. If you have a finish or species in mind, say so early. Otherwise we will pull slabs that fit the room and the budget.

What happens on the day of my appointment?

You see the slabs up close. We talk species, grain, and live edge character, then measure against your space. Pick a slab and we cover the plan: flattening, finish, base, and timeline. Nothing gets milled until you have signed off on the exact piece of wood.

Can you mill a tree from my own property?

Often, yes. Tree salvage milling turns a fallen or removed yard tree into usable slabs. We assess the log first. Size, species, and condition all matter, and some trees are not worth the cut. Bring photos and measurements, or call the shop at (513) 581-0361 and describe what you have.

Do I need kiln-dried wood for a table or mantel?

For furniture and interior pieces, yes. Kiln drying pulls moisture out of the slab so it will not warp or crack after it is finished. We sell kiln-dried stock for exactly this reason. Air-dried wood has its place, but a dining table or fireplace mantel needs the stability of a proper kiln cycle.

What is the difference between a live-edge table and an epoxy river table?

A live-edge table keeps the natural edge of the tree, bark line and all. An epoxy river table fills the gap between two slab halves with poured resin, often tinted. Both start with the same hardwood. The edge treatment and the look are what separate them.

Can you help me choose a wood species for my home?

That is part of every visit. Walnut for dark, rich grain. Oak for a bolder, classic pattern. Maple for a lighter, cleaner look. We hold each option up against your room, your lighting, and how the piece will be used. Wood selection help is free when you are shopping with us.
