Raw Stock You Can Read Before You Buy
You want to see the slab, not a listing photo. Walk the racks at our Emerald Ave yard in Cincinnati and check every board face, edge, and end grain yourself. Walnut, oak, maple, cherry, and whatever the salvage mill brought in that week. Each slab is tagged with species, thickness, and dimensions. Ask about moisture readings before you commit. Bring a straightedge, a pencil, and your cut list. We will pull slabs down so you can sight along the face and check for cup, twist, and checked ends. No pressure to buy a matched set. One slab for a coffee bar top is as welcome as a stack for a run of shelving.
Flattening and Milling Without the Machinery
Most home shops top out at a planer or a drum sander. A 30-inch-wide walnut slab will not fit either one. Our slab flattening service runs wide stock flat and parallel on a CNC router bed, so you take home a slab that is ready for sanding and finish instead of fighting wind for a weekend. Need it cut to length or ripped on a line you struck? We can handle straight cuts while the slab is on the machine. You do the joinery, the edges, and the finish in your own shop. We handle the big-iron work that does not fit a two-car garage.
Kiln-Dried Slabs Worth Building On
Air-dried stock is fine for rustic projects, but furniture that lives in a heated Cincinnati home needs lumber below about eight percent moisture. Kiln-dried slabs also kill any powderpost beetles riding in the sapwood, which matters if you are building for a customer. Ask which slabs have finished the kiln cycle and which are still air-drying. We will tell you straight. If your build timeline is six months out, buying a partially dried slab can save you money. If the project ships next month, buy kiln-dried and skip the surprises after glue-up.
Sourcing for Resale and One-Off Builds
Furniture makers who sell their work need consistent stock and honest grading. Our tree salvage milling keeps the racks moving with locally felled hardwood, so the character grades you liked last month usually have new arrivals behind them. Tell us what you build and what your customers ask for. We can flag thick stock when it lands, hold back figured pieces for a look, and talk through which species suit which price points. Weekend mornings and weekday afternoons, the shop is open. Bring photos of past work and we will point you at slabs that fit your line.

Wood Slab Sales for Woodworkers in Cincinnati FAQs
Can I inspect and hand-pick slabs before buying?
That is the only way we sell to woodworkers. Come to the yard at 4450 Emerald Ave in Cincinnati, pull slabs off the rack, and check them face to face. We will move stock, fan out boards, and talk through moisture content and grain direction with you. Hours are Tuesday through Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
Do you sell single slabs or do I have to buy in bulk?
Single slabs are fine. Plenty of hobby woodworkers buy one walnut slab for a nightstand or a bench and come back when the next project calls. Production builders buying multiple slabs can talk with us about what is coming through the mill, but there is no minimum purchase.
Will you flatten a slab I buy from you, and can I bring my own?
We flatten slabs bought from us as a standard service, cutting them flat, parallel, and to length if needed. For slabs from outside sources, call (513) 581-0361 with the dimensions and condition. We will tell you honestly whether the machine can handle it and what the job involves.
How do I know if a slab is dry enough for furniture?
Ask to see the moisture meter reading before you buy. Furniture for heated interiors wants wood at roughly six to eight percent moisture content. We tag kiln-dried slabs and will tell you which stock is still air-drying. If a slab is not ready for your timeline, we will say so rather than let you build on moving wood.
